For Indians chai is not
a beverage, it's an emotion, it's a way to get up in the morning, it's a way to
greet guests, it's a way to continue a long conversation. In simple words, chai
is an important part of every individual in India.
Although tea belongs to
China, chai strictly belongs to India, as chai has won the place of best
beverage for every Indian household.
Here is a brief story
for you which is believed to be the invasion of tea in India….
One story goes that
chai was developed by accident when a Buddhist monk on his way to China,
observed the local ritual of chewing on a few wild leaves and tried it himself.
On feeling rejuvenated, he decided to bring it back to India with him.
Interestingly, tea is believed to have been first discovered by mistake 5000
years ago when the Emperor of China found tea leaves in his pot of boiling
water. Known for his scientific curiosity, he proceeded to taste the drink and
loved it. Before long, tea became a staple of Chinese culture.
Well, it's not the only
story behind the tea invasion in India, there are a lot more. But the best chai you only get in an Indian household.
Chai has indeed greater
benefits than coffee. It is mentally clarifying and energizing yet calming at
the same time. For it's a subtle taste that mentally forces Indians to choose
it again over and over. In India, every state has different tea recipes to make
their own tea versions. And each of them is indeed different from others. Some
love to have a strong flavor of ginger in their chai, while some love to have
other species such as long, elaichi, cinnamon. While some just love the long
tea leaves which leave just the beautiful fragrance and flavor of the tea. And
that's why there are no such exact recipes for making the best chai.
